DIY Infused Gummy Candies

Safely make cannabis infused gummies at home

Who doesn’t love a homemade or DIY cannabis edible? Try our two easy methods of making your own.

Pro-tip: In order to dose most accurately, it’s best to buy a pre-extracted distillate or tincture, and use a small amount in the recipe. Most distillate is over 80% THC, and sold as a single gram. A simple mathematical conversion to create 10mg doses is to translate the gram of distillate into milligrams. 1 gram = 1,000 mg; therefore, a gram of distillate testing at 80% THC will have 800 milligrams of THC, or in other words, 80 10 mg doses. Distillate is pre-activated, meaning all of the THCA has been converted into edible THC, and it’s ready to be used right out of the dispenser. The drawback of distillate being super powerful is that it’s easy to overdose, so be cautious that your servings are adequately separated, and avoid any dose over 10mg until you know how distillate interacts with your unique physiology.

Quick & Easy Method

The easiest way to make your own gummy edible is to pick your favorite gummy candy (swedish fish, anyone?) and dispense a small drop of active THC distillate on the candy. That’s it, you’re done!

Homemade Method

If you’re more of a kitchen-type and want to actually make your own gummy candy, you can follow the recipe below using a tincture:

  1. Thoroughly mix one cup of your favorite fruit juice with 3 tablespoons of agar-agar (or gelatin) on low-medium heat, and a tablespoon of honey if you want extra sweetness.
  2. Add your desired dose of a liquid tincture, and calculate how many milligrams of THC will be in each gummy. For example, if you make 20 gummy candies with 100 mg tincture, each candy will have 5 mg of THC.
  3. Once the mixture is thoroughly blended, carefully pour it into gummy molds and refrigerate for four hours.

Most tinctures are coconut oil or avocado oil based, which are less harsh than alcohol based tinctures. Also, be sure to taste the tincture beforehand, some tinctures have specific flavors, or are a high-terpene extract (meaning they’ll have a very strong cannabis flavor). Ask your budtender for a tincture that will taste good in a gummy recipe!
